The Taj Mahal of Agra is one of the Seven most beautiful wonders of the World. It is the only history behind Taj Mahal that enhances its magnificence and attracts millions of peoples from across the world to it. Taj Mahal is an instance of how a man can be in love to his wife, even after her death he spent his whole life being in her memory. He made sure that their love story never fades away as he committed to his wife.
This man was the great Mughal emperor Shah-Jehan, who built such a lovely monument in memory of his beloved and most favourite wife Mumtaj Mahal. She was a Muslim Persian Princess (her original name was Arjumand Banu Begum before she married with Shah-Jehan the son of Jehangir). Shah-Jehan was at the age of 14 when he met with Arjumand Banu Begum and fell in love with the Persian princess. Finally later at the age of 19 years both (Shah-jehan and Arjumand Banu Begum) got married in 1612.
While dying Mumtaj Mahal asked Shah-Jehan to fulfil her few wishes out of these wishes three were the main from her side (Never Marry Again, Keep her child as a father not as king and built a beautiful mausoleum dedicated to their endless love that no one seen before).
It was great love of Shah-Jehan towards to his favourite wife among three wife’s that inspired Mughal emperor to built a magnificent monument of love, which we see in the form of “Taj Mahal”.
The construction of this beautiful mausoleum (Taj Mahal) started after 2 years from 1631. stonecutters, Masons, carvers, painters, inlayers, dome-builders, calligraphers and other artisans were summoned from the whole Mughal empire and some special artisans also from Iran and Central Asia. Taj Mahal took roughly 22 years to construct with day and night hard world of 22,000 labourers and artisans and more than 1000 elephants to move the things from a place to other. The beautiful Taj Mahal was built completely with white marble which was brought from Makrana, other places of India and Central Asia.
Shah-Jehan was not happy with White Marble mausoleum only then, Ustad Ahmad Lahauri suggested Shah-Jehan to adorn Taj Mahal with with the precious and semi-precious stones and at his management numerous rare precious and semi-precious stones were brought to this place from many parts of India and other countries to inlay and make the building more beautiful and unique as Shah-Jehan wanted to build a special mausoleum in memory of his loving wife….
They used some of the following precious and semi-precious stones from various parts of the world….
Jasper from Punjab
Jade and Crystal from China
Turquoise from Tibet
Diamonds from Panna
Chameleon from Arabia
Lapis Lazuli and Sapphire from Sri Lanka
Finally after spending a huge amount of roughly 32 million Taj Mahal completed in the year 1653. Soon after the completion of Taj Mahal Shah-Jehan deposed by Aurangzeb (his own son) and kept under house arrest at Agra Fort. Shah-Jehan died in 1666 at the age of 74 years, then he was brought to Taj Mahal and buried along with his wife Mumtaj as it was his last wish before dying.
Taj being blemished by British government and soldiers who deprived the Taj Mahal of its immaculate beauty by removing out precious and semi-precious stones such as diamonds, lapis, lazuli and from its walls by chisel .
A visit to Taj Mahal is a dream destination for most of the travellers around the world being a loving monument…. J
